Rosalynn Diane Sumners (born April 20, 1964 in Palo Alto , California ) is a former American figure skater who started in a single run . She is the world champion of 1983 .
Sumners grew up in Edmonds , Washington . It was there that she began figure skating and was at home there throughout her figure skating career. She was trained by Lorraine Borman .
In 1980 Sumners won the Junior World Championships . From 1982 to 1984 she was American champion in figure skating for women. She only took part in world championships twice. In 1982 she finished sixth and in 1983 she became world champion in Helsinki ahead of Claudia Leistner and Jelena Wodoresowa . In 1984 in Sarajevo Sumners played their only Olympic Games and won the silver medal behind Katarina Witt . She then immediately ended her amateur career without participating in the World Cup and switched to the professionals, where she ran in ice revues such as Disney on Ice and Stars on Ice until 1999.
After winning the world championship, Sumners was named honorary mayor of Edmonds and after the Olympic Games, “5th Avenue” in Edmonds was renamed “Rosalynn Sumners Boulevard”. In 1984 Sumners awarded their medals to a bank in Edmonds so that they could be displayed there. When she went to pick up the medals, they were gone. The bank had since changed hands. After 20 years, the medals were found in a bank safe deposit box that kept uncollected property. After the rediscovery, the medals were returned to Sumners by Washington State in 2004.
On April 25, 2004, Sumners married IMG Vice President Bob Kain . IMG is the largest sports marketing agency in the world. More than 20 years earlier, in 1983, Bob Kain failed to sign Rosalynn Sumners to his sports agency.
