Gundula "Gundi" Busch (born April 29, 1935 in Milan , † January 31, 2014 in Stockholm ) was a German figure skater who started in a single run . She was the world champion and European champion from 1954 and thus the first German world champion and also European champion in women's figure skating.
Career
Gundi Busch was the daughter of a manufacturer. The family moved from Milan via Haarlem in the Netherlands to Garmisch-Partenkirchen . She started figure skating in Milan when she was four and a half years old. Later she took ballet lessons in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and also trained temporarily in London and at Cologne EK . Her trainer was Thea Frenssen .
The German champion from 1953 and 1954 took part in world and European championships from 1951 to 1954 . In 1953 she was runner-up in Dortmund behind the British Valda Osborn and runner-up in Davos behind the American Tenley Albright . A year later she became European champion in Bolzano and world champion in Oslo . Both title wins were the first for a German figure skater in a single run. She had finished her only Olympic Games in 1952 in Oslo in eighth place. On February 19, 1954, she received the Silver Laurel Leaf for her athletic achievements .
Immediately after her successes, Busch ended her amateur career in 1954 at the age of only 19 and went to the Hollywood Ice Revue . In 1956 she married the Swedish professional ice hockey player Gösta "Lill-Lulle" Johansson and moved with him to Sweden . Their son Peter Lulle was born there a year later. Gundi Busch worked, among other things, as a trainer.
Her life story was published in April 2009 under the title Mein eiskaltes Leben . In it, Gundi Busch describes how she was pushed to figure skating by her mother.
