Cologne Ice Club
The Cologne Ice Club ( KEK ) is an ice sports club from Cologne with the departments of ice dancing , figure skating , speed skating and curling and between 2011 and 2014 sledge ice hockey .
The club was founded in 1936 when the ice and swimming stadium on Lentstrasse began operations. Originally the club also had an ice hockey team , which separated from the KEK in April 1972 and became an independent club as the Cologne EC "Die Haie" eV .
After the club was able to celebrate great successes, especially in the 1950s, it is now almost exclusively active in popular sports and in promoting youth. Until its demolition in 2008, the Cologne ice rink was the home of the club. The new home of the club is the newly built combined ice and swimming stadium at the same location. The KEK currently has around 800 members.
