Yulia Vyacheslavovna Lipnitskaja ( Russian Юлия Вячеславовна Липницкая ; born June 5, 1998 in Yekaterinburg ) is a former Russian figure skater who started in a single run . With the Russian team, she became the youngest figure skater of all time to become an Olympic champion in 2014 at the age of 15. She is the European champion of 2014.
Career
Beginnings
Julia Lipnitskaja started figure skating at the age of four in her hometown of Yekaterinburg. In 2009 she moved to Moscow to train because of her great ice skating talent. Right from the start she placed in the top ranks of youth championships and achieved her breakthrough in the 2011/2012 season by winning the final of the international junior grand prix.
National and international career
In 2012, when she took part in the Russian Senior Women Championship for the first time , Lipnitskaya won the silver medal and in the same year became both Russian junior champion and junior world champion . She also became known this season for not falling in a single competition. Also in 2012 she made her debut at an international senior women competition, the Finlandia Trophy. She won several Grand Prix competitions , but was too young to take part in the World Figure Skating Championships that year .
After an injury break, she returned in 2013, finished fifth in the Russian Junior Championship and second in the Junior World Championship behind her teammate Jelena Radionova . In the following season she won the Finlandia Trophy and the Grand Prix competition Skate Canada . By winning the Cup of Russia in Moscow, she qualified for the Grand Prix final , which she finished with the silver medal. This makes her the second youngest medalist in her country after the figure legend Irina Sluzkaja . With a subsequent second place at the Russian championship, she qualified for participation in the European Figure Skating Championships in 2014 , where she immediately won the title.
Olympia 2014
At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, she won gold in the new team competition with the Russian team and was also first among the women in the short program and freestyle in this competition. In the women's individual competition, she achieved 5th place.
Personal
Lipnitskaya fell ill with anorexia ; from the spring of 2017 she went into medical care. In August of the same year, she announced her retirement from active sports.
