Ingrid Turković-Wendl (born May 17, 1940 in Vienna ; born Ingrid Wendl ) is a former Austrian figure skater and television presenter. She is the European figure skating champion from 1956 and 1958 . From 2002 to 2006 she was a member of the Austrian National Council for the ÖVP .

Life

In the mid-1950s, Wendl, together with her compatriots Hanna Eigel and Hanna Walter, was still one of the best figure skaters in the world as a high school student. In 1956 and 1958 she became European champion and in 1957 she won the silver medal. She won the bronze medal at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . At the world championships in 1956 and 1957 she was third and ended her amateur career in 1958 with the runner-up world championship. At the beginning of January 1959 she was chosen by the Austrian sports journalists as the best lady (behind the two skiers Toni Sailer and Andreas Molterer ) in the election of "Sportsman of the Year 1958" . She then joined the Vienna Ice Revue as a professional figure skater and later the US Revue Ice Capades . In 1971 she retired from sports.

In 1959 she played in the film "Traumrevue". In 1972 Wendl became a freelancer at ORF . Here she worked as a program spokesperson and commentator for figure skating events. She later also hosted major entertainment programs. From 1979 she was part of Robert Lembkes' advice team What am I? on. In 1988 she moved to the ORF sports department as an editor and reporter. For this she received a Romy as the most popular sports presenter in 1990 . Wendl left the ORF in 2000.

In November 2002, shortly before the National Council elections, she announced her entry into politics and ran for the ÖVP. In the elections on November 24, 2002, she was elected to parliament via the federal list.

Ingrid Wendl is married to the bassoonist Milan Turković . She grew up in the third district of Vienna and also worked in the documentary Meine Landstraße (2014).
