Romy (award)
The Romy (also Kurier Romy ) is an Austrian film and television award that is awarded annually by the daily Kurier in memory of the actress Romy Schneider (1938–1982) . Originally initiated in 1990 as a pure television award, performance in the cinema area has also been taken into account since 2010. The initiator and designer of Romy is Rudolf John . The award ceremony takes place in the Vienna Hofburg .
The prize is divided into audience and specialist categories. The winners of the personal audience awards are selected by the audience from five to six nominees (depending on the category) via the Internet.
The so-called Academy Awards are awarded in the specialist categories - a jury of specialist journalists suggests three nominees in each category, from which the Academy (all previous Romy Prize winners) selects the winners. Productions and artists from all over the German-speaking area can be nominated.

In 2007 Walter Straub , the outgoing managing director of the Hofburg Kongresszentrum & Redoutensäle Vienna, where the Romy awards ceremony takes place every year, received an honorary Romy in the invented category of "Best Lord of the Castle".
In 2006 Moritz Bleibtreu received his second Romy as the most popular actor. At the after-show party, the Romy is said to have been stolen from him, which almost led to a fight when he found her at Alex Scheurer's table.
At the 1998 award ceremony, Marcel Prawy was presented with the Platinum Romy for Otto Schenk's life's work in a plastic courier sack . This was an allusion to the opera connoisseur's habit of keeping many things in plastic bags.
At the same award ceremony, Caterina Valente sang her acceptance speech.
In 1996 the so-called "Grapsch Affair" occurred. OW Fischer , who was awarded for his life's work that year, is said to have grabbed Christina Lugner by the knee, who "smiled sympathetically, lovingly" at him.
The only wooden Romy was given to Reginald von Ravenhorst in 1995, the sheepdog from Inspector Rex , who was honored as the most popular series star out of competition.
Probably the most romantic moment in Romy history took place in 1994 when Wolfgang Fierek asked his girlfriend Djamila in front of the camera when he received his Romy award as the most popular series star: "Do you want to be my wife?" The marriage proposal was accepted.
In 1992 there was a death during the Romy Awards. Thomas Pluch died of a stroke seven minutes after receiving his Romy for Best Screenplay of the Year . The gala was canceled, even if that was not right for many. Uschi Glas : “Whatever happens, the show must go on”. All other Romy winners of the year did not receive their statuettes until they were awarded in 1993.
statuette
The 24-carat gold-plated Romy statuette is 30.5 cm high, weighs almost 2.9 kilograms and stands on a noble serpentine base. It was shaped from a movie scene from The Swimming Pool with Alain Delon , in which Romy Schneider adjusts the wearer of her dress.
