Kathrin Zechner (born May 17, 1963 in Graz , Styria ) is an Austrian program director . Zechner is the television director of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF).

Education and career

Kathrin Zechner studied from 1981 to 1986 Jus and theater in Vienna .

From 1986 to 1991 she was a freelancer at ORF . In 1992 she became head of entertainment at the German private television broadcaster Tele 5 in Munich. From 1992 until her new move back to ORF, she built up the German branch of the production company Endemol . From 1995 to 2002 Zechner was program director for ORF and then worked for two years as a project developer for theater and film productions. As the successor to Rudi Klausnitzer , she gradually took over the artistic directorship of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien for musicals in 2004 . Under her leadership, musicals such as Rebecca , The Infernal Comedy with John Malkovich, Romeo and Juliet and the Weberische were developed and premiered.

Kathrin Zechner has been TV director at ORF since 2012. Most recently, under her leadership, television information was expanded with two new daily programs ( today at noon on ORF2 and ZiB Magazin on ORFeins), new self-produced formats for the younger ORF broadcaster ORF one (such as the election tour with Hanno Settele) and new documentaries were developed ( Universum History , Weltjournal Plus , documentaries on ORF eins) added to the program.

Kathrin Zechner is the mother of two sons.
