Election trip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The election trip was an ORF TV format that was broadcast from 2013 to 2016 on the occasion of various elections shortly before the respective election dates. The show was set in a converted old-timer , with the respective candidates being allowed to sit in the passenger seat. Behind the wheel sat the long-time Washington correspondent and ORF journalist Hanno Settele , who moderated the program.

The Austrian format was adopted by Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) for the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2015 . In Germany, a similar format was shown on WDR Lokalzeit for the 2017 federal election .

For the National Council election in Austria 2017 , instead of the election trip on ORF Eins , there was a new format entitled " Nationalrats ", which was moderated by Hanno Settele and ZIB20 and ZIB24 presenter Lisa Gadenstätter .

General

The ORF election trip to the Austrian National Council elections in 2013 was broadcast for the first time. The then party leaders Werner Faymann (SPÖ) , Michael Spindelegger (ÖVP) , Heinz-Christian Strache (FPÖ) , Eva Glawischnig (Greens) , Josef Bucher (BZÖ) and Frank Stronach (Team Stronach) took their seats in the passenger seat . At that time, the "death penalty teller" von Stronach caused a stir when he spoke out in favor of the introduction of the death penalty in Austria. There were further editions for the EU parliamentary elections in 2014 and for the Austrian federal presidential elections in 2016 .

The route was suggested by the politicians and determined in advance. Mostly Hanno Settele chauffeured the candidates from one election campaign to the next.

The car had been a black Mercedes 280 S , built in 1978 , since the first edition . Several GoPros were installed in the car, which recorded the conversations from different angles.

development

The idea for the show came from ORF editor Elisabeth Gollackner . She developed the format in a team with presenter Hanno Settele , director André Turnheim and the program manager Elisabeth Totzauer . The focus was on the journey the candidates are going on. With the help of music tracks and landscape shots, the political talk became a "road movie".
