Hanno Settele (born August 12, 1964 in Dornbirn , Vorarlberg ) is a radio and television journalist for ORF .

life and career

Settele was born in Vorarlberg to a German father and an Austrian mother. Although he has never lived in Germany, he has German citizenship because his parents could not come to an agreement with the Austrian authorities. He describes himself as an Austrian.

From 1990 to 1994 he worked at the ORF regional studio in Vorarlberg as head of the radio service and as a current reporter on television. In May 1994 he moved to Vienna , where he worked as a domestic policy editor for the ORF radio journals and also moderated. In 1997 he headed the in-house teaching staff.

In 1998 Settele then switched to television, where he worked for the weekly magazine Report . In February 1999 he returned to radio as deputy head of the internal affairs department for two years. From March 2001 to February 2003, Settele was a deputy head of the Bild department for Germany / EU and in 2003 he was also chief reporter for Zeit im Bild . Among other things, he also moderated the ORF press hour.

Settele was even the subject of journalistic reporting in January 2002 through a sharp comment in Zeit im Bild on current events in the local sign dispute . ("Has Haider decided to fillet the constitution, on which he is of course fully sworn in, according to the motto: What is right, I decide?"). Jörg Haider sued the Federal Communications Senate against the comment , but Settele was subsequently acquitted.

From 2003 to 2006 Hanno Settele was an ORF correspondent in the USA (ORF office in Washington, DC ). In this role he also reported on Hurricane Katrina for ORF with live entries from New Orleans . From August 2007 Hanno Settele was the ORF chief correspondent in Washington.

In December 2012 he returned to Austria. Since then he has mainly been active in the field of documentary programs, and since December 2014 he has regularly presented articles in the "Dokeins" series.

In 2013, 2014 and 2016 (before the National Council , the Europe and the Federal Presidential elections in Austria in 2016 ) Settele was seen on Austrian radio as part of the Wahlfahrt interview format , in which he acted as a chauffeur for top politicians before elections and with them during the Rides came into conversation.

From September 18 to October 2, 2017, Settele and ZIB presenter Lisa Gadenstätter presented the TV quiz National Councils as part of the ORF reporting on the 2017 National Council election .

In 2018 he presented nine portraits of the federal states as the emperor's courier. The framework is provided by “the emperor” who wants to sell a federal state due to lack of money and sends his courier to the individual states to evaluate their value.
