Andrea Claudio Caroni (born April 19, 1980 in St. Gallen , resident in Grub and Mendrisio ) is a Swiss lawyer and politician ( FDP. Liberals ).

From 1986 to 1992 he attended primary school in Grub AR . After primary school, he completed secondary school in Wolfhalden . After graduating from the Trogen Cantonal School , he studied law at the Universities of Zurich and Geneva . Caroni was u. a. from 2003 to 2008 assistant at the University of Zurich. He obtained in 2007 admitted to the bar and his doctorate in 2008 at the state and international law . From 2008 to 2010 he was a personal assistant to the then Federal Councilor Hans-Rudolf Merz in the Federal Department of Finance in Bern. From 2010 to 2012 he completed a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) at Harvard Kennedy School . Since 2012 he has been working as a lawyer in the law firm "ME Advocat Rechtsanwälte" in Herisau . In 2013 he became a lecturer in public law at the University of St. Gallen . Since 2015 he has also been a member of the GLA at the Institute for Legal Practice (IRP) - HSG.

At the age of 19, Caroni joined the newly founded FDP Grub , and in 2005 he was elected to the municipal council of the municipality of Grub. In 2007 Caroni founded the Jungfreisinnigen Ausserrhoden , which he chaired until 2010. On October 23, 2011 , he was elected to the National Council to succeed Marianne Kleiner . He was the only member of the National Council of the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden . From 2011 to 2015 he was a board member of Jungfreisinnigen Schweiz . In October 2015 he was elected to the Council of States . In 2016 he was elected Vice-President of the FDP, the Liberals , by the Assembly of Delegates . The party presidents' conference then elected him as the first vice-president, who, if necessary, is the official deputy of the party president. In October 2019 he was confirmed in office as Council of States with 73.9%.

Andrea Caroni plays the drums and founded the Bundeshaus band, which gave its debut on November 28, 2012 at Maya Graf's party for the President of the National Council . From 2000 to 2006 he was a drummer for military music (RS / Inf Rgt 34 ​​in Urnäsch and Herisau). Caroni has been Captain of the TC Bundeshaus since 2012.
