Maya Graf (born February 28, 1962 in Sissach ; entitled to live there ) is a Swiss politician of the Swiss Green Party ( GPS ) and represents the canton of Baselland . In the 2012/13 year of office she was President of the National Council and has been a member of the Council of States since 2019 . Maya Graf is committed to expanding research, especially agricultural research, dual vocational training , sustainable management, circular economy , nature and environmental protection, trade, equality and social sustainability. In 2018, as Vice President, she helped shape the campaign for the Fair Food popular initiative of Green Switzerland.

Maya Graf is the daughter of the former Basel District Administrator Fritz Graf ( SVP ) and has two younger brothers. After compulsory schooling in Sissach, she graduated from commercial secondary school from 1978 to 1981 and from 1987 to 1991 the higher technical school in the social area of ​​both Basels , which she left as a qualified social worker . From 1991 to 1993 she was deputy head of the transit center for asylum seekers in Pratteln . From 1994 to 2001 Graf worked as a social worker in a disabled advice center in Liestal . Since 2000, she and her brother have been co-managers of the family's own organic farm in Sissach.

Graf is married and has two children (* 1993 and 1996).

Graf was a member of the Sissach Community Commission from July 1988 to June 1995. From July 1995 to May 2001 she was a member of the district administrator, from 1999 to 2001 as president of the green parliamentary group. On June 5, 2001, she succeeded the resigned Ruth Gonseth in the National Council and was confirmed in 2003 , 2007 , 2011 , 2015 and 2019 . Maya Graf was President of the Greens parliamentary group in the Federal Assembly from May 1, 2009 to November 28, 2010 . She has been a member of the National Council's Science, Education and Culture Commission (WBK-NR) since 2001 , and from 2007 to 2009 she was also a member of the Commission for Social Security and Health (SGK-NR) . In November 2010 Graf was elected the second Vice-President of the National Council and one year later the first. At the beginning of the 2012 winter session, she was elected President of the National Council on November 26, 2012 with 173 of 183 valid votes for one year as the first member of the Green Party. Her successor in this office was Ruedi Lustenberger .

Among other things, Graf is committed to GMO-free agriculture. One of her greatest successes was the vote in favor of the popular initiative “for food from GM-free agriculture” in 2005. Graf also became famous for her role in the documentary “ Mais im Bundeshuus” (2003). She was a member of the National Council for several years . On November 19, 2014, she was unanimously elected co-president of the women's umbrella association alliance F , together with National Councilor Kathrin Bertschy (Grünliberale BE) .

In November 2019, Graf was elected to the Council of States in the second ballot to succeed the resigned Claude Janiak as the first female representative of the canton of Baselland .

Maya Graf is a member of the board of the Green Baselland. She is the President of the Business Audit Commission (GPK) and a member of the Business Audit Delegation (GPDel) . She is also a member of the Commission for Social Security and Health (SGK-SR) and the Commission for Science, Education and Culture (WBK-SR) .

In addition to her parliamentary work, Maya Graf is co-president of Hochstamm Suisse (Basel), board member of the Greina Foundation, Pro Spezie Rara and Biovision . She is Vice-President of the Northwestern Switzerland Committee against Nuclear Power Plants (NWA).
