Claude Janiak (born October 30, 1948 in Basel ; resident in Basel and Binningen ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). In 2005/06 he was President of the National Council .

biography

Janiak was born in Basel as the son of an interned Pole and a Swiss woman. After graduating from the humanistic grammar school in Basel, Janiak studied law at the university and graduated in 1971 with a licentiate. In 1975 he received his doctorate and in 1978 he became a lawyer .

Janiak was from 1974 to 1979 local councilor of Bubendorf , from 1981 to 1987 and from 1994 to 1999 district administrator in Basel , from 1989 to 1995 president of the SP Baselland and from 1998 to 1999 president of the district administrator. Between 1988 and 1995 he was also the Einwohnerrat in Binningen on. In the 1999 elections he was appointed to the National Council elected and in 2003 re-elected. In 2006 he was President of the National Council . In 2007 he was elected to the Council of States for Baselland . In the elections in 2019 he did not join in again.

Janiak is a Polish-Swiss citizen . He was the first President of the National Council to be open about his homosexuality .
