history
In Bubendorf, Celtic and Alemannic graves were discovered in the vicinity of the Sappeten area . Walls, remains of a Roman road and a bridge have been preserved from Roman times. In a document from the 13th century it is noted that Bubendorf belonged to the Count of Frohburg and came to the Dompropstei Basel in 1399. Wildenstein Castle was founded by the Eptingen in the 13th century; it was damaged in the great Basel earthquake in 1356 . It then changed hands several times, and finally came to the Basler Henman Sevogel , who fell in 1444 in the battle of St. Jakob an der Birs as the leader of the Basel bidder. Today the castle and the farm belonging to it belong to the canton of Basel-Landschaft. The farm has been tended and managed by David Sprunger for several years. The Gutenfels Castle on the municipality boundary with Arboldswil was also founded by the Eptinger . Built between 1220 and 1250, it was completely destroyed in the Basel earthquake. It was excavated around 1970 and is preserved in this state.
