history
The first documented mention of Niederdorf comes from 1345 with the wording onoltzwil in the ... nidern village .
In the Middle Ages , Niederdorf and Oberdorf formed the village of Onoldswil , which was partially destroyed by a landslide in 1295 and divided into today's villages of Niederdorf and Oberdorf. In 1628, 29 houses in the center of the village were destroyed by a fire, and in 1830, 1924 and 1926 floods from the Frenke ravaged the village.
In the black war from 1591 to 1594, Hans Siegrist from Niederdorf led the rebellious landscape. During the separation of the cantons from Basel , the people of Niederdörfl fought on the side of the city, but were nevertheless assigned to the new canton of Basel-Landschaft against their will in 1833.

The village is on the main road H12, which connects Liestal in the canton of Basel-Landschaft via the Upper Hauenstein with Balsthal in the canton of Solothurn . The Waldenburgerbahn , an overland tram from Waldenburg to Liestal, runs through the village .
