The Waldenburg district is one of five districts in the Swiss canton of Basel-Landschaft . The main town is Waldenburg .
geography
The Waldenburg district extends in the upper Frenkental, which is also called Waldenburgtal, in a hilly landscape that belongs to the foothills of the Jura . It is the most rural district of the canton, which is in absolute contrast to the urban district of Arlesheim . With 15,965 inhabitants, the Waldenburg district is on the one hand the least populous district, on the other hand with 104.98 km² the second largest area of the Basel landscape districts and is therefore the least densely populated part of the canton.
Neighboring districts
The Waldenburg district borders the Gösgen district in the south-east, the Olten district and the Gäu district in the south, the Thal district ( SO ) in the south-west, the Thierstein and Dorneck districts in the west (all part of the Solothurn canton), and in the north to the Liestal district and in the northeast to the Sissach district .
Political communities
The district consists of a total of 15 municipalities (as of spring 2009), including, apart from Waldenburg, which has a historical town charter, not a single city. List:
