Titterten is a municipality in the Waldenburg district of the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland .

geography

Historic aerial photo by Werner Friedli from 1953

The municipality of Titterten is located on the edge of the Folded Jura on a ridge between the two Frenkentäler valleys at 668  m above sea level. M.

history

1152 Driritum, 1189 Titeritun, 1218 Thierutun, 1226 Titritun, 1347 Titritten, 1415 Titterten (dialectically "Ditterte"). In the strange form of the name there is probably the Celto-Roman ending "dunum", which means "fixed place" or, in an expanded interpretation, fortress. This ending is related to our "Zuun" (fence) and denotes a fixed place.
