Christian Miesch (2007)

Christian Miesch (born February 27, 1948 in Titterten ; BL ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP , previously FDP ) and was a long-time member of the National Council .

Life

Miesch used to be a member of the FDP. From 1979 to 1983 he was a member of the municipal council of Titterten before he was elected to the district administrator of the canton of Basel-Landschaft in 1983. After winning a seat in the National Council in 1991, he resigned in the District Administrator. Shortly before the 1995 elections , after differences within the FDP, he announced that he would like to run on his own "Free Bourgeois List". However, this list did not win enough votes for a seat, and Miesch resigned from the National Council. Shortly afterwards he joined the SVP. In the 2003 elections he was re-elected to the National Council. Until 2011 he was a member of the Business Audit Commission, Security Policy Commission and the delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly . In the elections of October 23, 2011 he was not re-elected. After Caspar Baader's resignation in July 2014, he replaced him and was sworn in as National Councilor for the third time at the beginning of the 2014 autumn session. To the elections in 2015 he did not stand. In the autumn session of 2015, he asked the entire Federal Council to resign with an interpellation .

Miesch is the founder of the Switzerland – Kazakhstan parliamentary group . In 2018 it became known that while still in office in 2015, he had issued an invoice for a 1st class GA travelcard for his activities as the group's secretary. Thomas Borer's lobby company, which works for the state of Kazakhstan, asked for this money back in 2017 because it was an “absolutely incomprehensible invoice”. The responsible commissions lifted Miesch's parliamentary immunity in September 2018 , for the first time ever for a member of parliament.

Miesch is married, has two grown children and lives in Titterten.
