Werner Friedli (born on August 16, 1910 in Dübendorf ; died on September 6, 1996 ) was a Swiss photographer .

life and work

Friedli completed an apprenticeship as a photographer with Heinrich Wild in Dübendorf from 1925 to 1928, and a master class at the Higher Graphic Federal Teaching and Research Institute in Vienna in 1934 . Then he worked as a freelance photographer. After the early death of Walter Mittelholzer in 1937, Werner Friedli took over the management of Swissair Photo AG in 1938 and brought it through the economically difficult war years. After an aircraft accident in the Engadine , he resigned as manager in 1960. He then founded his own company for aerial photography and continued taking photos until 1973.

Around 21,000 black and white aerial photographs taken at an angle in 13 × 18 cm are now in the ETH Library's image archive . The original negatives, some with the corresponding gelatin silver prints, come from Friedli's time at Swissair Photo AG. The inventory with the image code suffix LBS_H1 is fully digitized.
