Russin is a municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland .

geography

The community is located on the north bank on a hill above the Rhone and its tributary Allondon opposite Cartigny and Aire-la-Ville . 398 (end of 2005) Russinois and Russinoises live in the 493 hectare community and consists of the hamlets of Verbois , La Chaumaz and Les Baillets and the village of Russin . 97% of the municipal area are agricultural zones and forests.

Is located in the municipality that the Rhone ausnützende Laufwasserkraftwerk Barrage de Verbois . In 1974 68% of the population said no to the construction of a nuclear power plant in the municipality in a referendum . However, the EOS continued to plan for a nuclear reactor . In contrast, a popular initiative was launched in the canton of Geneva in 1980 , and six years later it achieved that around 60% of Geneva voters put an end to the Verbois nuclear power plant project.
