Chancy is a municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland .
The municipality includes the villages of Chancy and Passeiry and the hamlet of Le Cannelet. Chancy is located in Champagne in the far west of Switzerland. The westernmost Swiss boundary stone is in the municipality of Chancy.
history
Before 1260, the Counts of Geneva had sovereign rights in Chancy. They then handed them over to the Duchy of Savoy . Since 1536 Chancy has been subject to the city of Geneva and accepted the Reformation.
Chancy was an important transit point on the road from Geneva to Lyon , because this was where you got to the right bank of the Rhone . A ferry took over the transport until 1424. This was then replaced by a bridge. After the bridge was demolished in 1589, ferry operations were resumed at the current location until the bridge was rebuilt in 1874, around three hundred years later.
The Chancy-Pougny run-of-river power station has been located above the bridge and the village since 1924 .
