Hermance is a municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland . It is located directly on Lake Geneva and borders France in the north.

history

In 1271 the city was mentioned as Eremencia . Hermance has belonged to Savoy since 1355 . In 1536 the city was subjugated and reformed by the Bernese and a pastor was appointed. In 1542 the hospital built in 1373 and the school founded in 1459 were rebuilt. In 1567 Hermance went back to Savoy. The Savoy used Hermance as a base against the city of Geneva. At the end of this century the village was marked by wars between Geneva and France on the one hand and Savoy and Spain on the other. In 1589 the French destroyed the city's fortifications. In 1603, after the peace treaty of St-Julien, the people of Geneva had to hand the city back to the Savoy. In 1815 Hermance became a municipality in the canton of Geneva.
