Lancy is located south of the Rhone and consists of the two districts Grand-Lancy and Petit-Lancy .

The Stade de Genève , one of the venues for the 2008 European Football Championship , is located in the municipality of Lancy.

The neighboring municipalities are Onex , Plan-les-Ouates , Carouge and the city of Geneva .

The legislative power is exercised by the municipal council (conseil municipal) . It has 37 seats and is elected directly by the people every five years using proportional representation with a 7 percent hurdle. The municipal council determines the city budget and votes on submissions from the city government (conseil administratif) . He can also launch initiatives himself.
