The Stade de Genève (or Stade de la Praille ) is a football stadium in the Swiss canton of Geneva and is located in the municipality of Lancy in the La Praille district on the former site of the slaughterhouse there .
history
The stadium has 30,084 seats, including 29 boxes for 10 to 40 people, and is the home of the Super League club Servette FC ; the club previously played in the Stade des Charmilles . There are 200 seats available to journalists in the press stand. The VIP area is equipped with 1,228 business seats. The stadium was inaugurated on March 16, 2003 with the game Servette against Young Boys (1: 1) in front of 30,000 visitors. The official opening took place on April 30, 2003 with an international match between Switzerland and Italy , which the Swiss lost 2-1.
In addition, three games of the 2008 European Football Championship took place in the stadium. Since Servette has mostly not played in the top division in Switzerland in recent years, the system is only sold out for a few international matches.
An ice hockey game was also held in the stadium on January 11, 2014 . Here, in the so-called played NLA Winter Classic the Genève-Servette HC and HC Lausanne before 30,000 spectators in the open air up to today. In addition, the stadium was used for rugby games. The game of the Heineken Cup 2006/07 between CS Bourgoin-Jallieu from France against the Irish Munster Rugby (27:30) took place in Lancy.
