The Swissporarena ( proper spelling : swissporarena ) is a football stadium in Lucerne , Switzerland . It is located on the site of the former Allmend stadium . The stadium construction is u. a. the home of the football club FC Luzern .

history

Originally, those responsible wanted to play in the arena in spring 2011, but this was not possible due to delays in construction. The first championship game in the new Swissporarena was on July 31, 2011 against FC Thun (0-0). The official inauguration game of the new stadium took place on September 3rd. The opponent was Hamburger SV . The game ended 2-2.

The capacity for national sporting events is a maximum of 17,000 spectators divided into 14,000 seats and 3,000 standing places. For international events, it is 16,000. The Swissporarena will be the first Swiss stadium to have combined standing and seating (grandstand B). For concerts, the audience capacity can be increased to up to 20,000 seats.

In addition to the football stadium for the FC Luzern games, an indoor swimming pool, a Migros branch , a Migros fitness center and a double gym for university sports will be built in and around the Swissporarena . On the south side of the Swissporarena, two high-rise residential buildings (Hochzwei) with 283 rental apartments were built. The 77 and 88 meter high skyscrapers are the tallest residential buildings in central Switzerland .

On June 14, 2016, FC Luzern AG announced that it would equip the Swissporarena with a photovoltaic system on the roof. The assembly was completed in mid-September 2016. The facility covers a total area of ​​6,862 square meters . The system is to deliver 900,000 kilowatt hours of electricity , which corresponds to the annual consumption of 200 households or 900 people. The electricity is fed into the public grid. The plant brings an annual reduction in CO 2 emissions of 480 tons.
