The SwissCityMarathon Lucerne (until 2012: Lucerne Marathon ) is a marathon in Lucerne that was held for the first time on October 28, 2007.

It is organized by the SwissCityMarathon Lucerne association and takes place on the last Sunday in October. The program also includes a half marathon , a 10 km run (up to 2016 5 mile run over 8.61 km) and since 2016 a DuoMarathon (two-man relay). With 5594 finishers, the premiere was the first running event with the largest number of participants in Switzerland, and the Lucerne Marathon immediately became the third largest Swiss marathon after the Zurich and Jungfrau Marathons . With 6,345 finishers in 2018, the SwissCityMarathon Lucerne is the largest half marathon in Switzerland. In 2018, a charity run without ranking was offered for the first time. With an extra mile at the destination, further donations were collected for UNICEF .

Route

The route is a round course the length of a half marathon with start and finish at the Swiss Museum of Transport . First the route leads along Haldenstrasse past the traditional luxury hotels of the city and the Hofkirche . From Schwanenplatz, the runners cross the pier with a view of the sights of the Chapel Bridge and Water Tower as well as the old town. On the other side of the lake, you pass the Lucerne Culture and Congress Center, built by Jean Nouvel, on the route around the Horw peninsula, along Lake Lucerne with a view of the mountain panorama of Central Switzerland . From Horw , where the start of the 10 km run is located, the route leads through the Swissporarena , right through the Lucerne Hall of the Lucerne Culture and Congress Center and through Lucerne's old town to the finish in the Museum of Transport.

In the 2011 edition, the route in the area of ​​the Allmend in Lucerne ran for a length of almost 1.5 km through the shell of the Zentralbahn tunnel . In the 2013 edition, the circuit ran through the old town of Lucerne for the first time and the football stadium on the Allmend has been included since 2016.
