Qualifying teams' venues |
In the Super League, the ten clubs competed against each opponent twice at home and twice away. In total, each team plays 36 games. The winner will be the 2020 Swiss Champion and was given the chance to qualify for the group stage of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League in three qualifying rounds . The last placed will be relegated to the Challenge League .
Originally, the teams in positions two and three of the championship were supposed to qualify for the group stage of the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League , as well as the fourth-placed team, if the cup winner was among the teams already qualified. However, due to the crowded game schedule and scheduling conflicts with the European competitions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic , the Swiss Football Association decided to award the European Cup starting place in the championship that was intended for the cup winner.
The team in 9th place plays against the runner-up in the Challenge League in the barrage to stay in the Super League.

Barrage
The two relegation games between the ninth place in the Super League and the runner up in the Challenge League will be played on August 7 and August 10, 2020. For the first time, the new rules apply, according to which, in the event of a tie, the overall winner is the club that has scored the most goals in both games. If there is another tie between points and goals, the second leg will be extended by 15 minutes twice. If both clubs score the same number of goals in extra time, a penalty shoot-out after the second leg will determine overall victory. The away goal rule does not apply.
