history

The company was founded in 1978 by Otto Ineichen . The background to this was a natural disaster that occurred in the northern part of Canton Ticino at the end of August 1978 . Ineichen bought the inventory of a shopping center for resellers in Losone , which was badly affected by the storm , rented an empty business space in Lucerne and sold the goods within a very short time as Otto's Schadenposten AG .

In the initial phase, the company mainly offered goods from damage claims . Since 1984, however, it has only been flawless items of domestic and foreign origin. For this reason, in November 1985, the name was changed to Otto's Warenposten AG .

With the opening of the branch in Yverdon in March 1989, Otto's Warenposten also gained a foothold in western Switzerland for the first time under the name Otto le soldeur . Since September 1999, the company has been operating under the uniform name Otto’s due to the constantly expanding range .

In September 2001 Otto Ineichen withdrew from the operative business and handed the management over to his son Mark. However, he remained Chairman of the Board of Directors until he also handed over this mandate to his son Mark in July 2010. Otto Ineichen died in 2012.

The company has also been active in the automotive trade since 2006. From 2009 to 2013 Otto's also offered prefabricated houses, but the offer was not widely accepted.

In 2017 and 2018 Otto's AG was criticized for reselling fake wine. The corresponding wines were taken off the market and the importer was taken. In February 2020 it became known that Otto's had to have the Swiss crosses removed from shoes due to the Swissness Act , as less than 60 percent of the production costs were incurred in Switzerland.
