Life

The son of a butcher with his own business attended the commercial high school in Freiburg . He studied business administration at the University of St. Gallen and graduated in 1965 with a licentiate . Since studying there, he has been a member of the AV Mercuria San Gallensis student association . In 1967 he and his brother founded the meat products company Viaca AG in Geuensee . The company faced bankruptcy ten years later and had to be sold for free, with Ineichen losing all of his assets.

When the goods in a shopping center were badly damaged by a storm in the canton of Ticino in the summer of 1978 , he recognized the opportunity and bought up all the goods on hand. With these post items of all kinds he then founded Otto's Schadenposten , which were renamed Otto's Warenposten in 1985 . In 1989 he opened his first shop in French-speaking Switzerland under the name Otto le soldeur . Since 1999 the company has acted as Otto’s across languages. In 2009 it consisted of 104 branches, employed 1650 people and generated sales of over 600 million francs. The head office is in Sursee. In 2001, Ineichen handed over the management of the company to his son Mark , and he himself took over the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors until July 2010, when he also handed over this position to his son and left the Board of Directors entirely.

In the 2003 elections Ineichen was elected to the National Council as one of the members of the Canton of Lucerne . It was confirmed in 2007 and 2011 . In the 2011 National Council elections, he achieved by far the best result in the Canton of Lucerne. Ineichen was a full member of the Commission for Science, Education and Culture , and in his first legislature he was also a member of the Pardon Commission and the Rehabilitation Commission . In 2011 he held the most mandates of the members of the newly elected National Council with 27 mandates in companies , foundations and associations (including signatory authority ).

From 2007, Otto Ineichen, in cooperation with other entrepreneurs and the cantonal offices for vocational training, offered Speranza 2000 , a support program for young school leavers with unfavorable career prospects. This program is intended as a measure against youth unemployment .
