Geuensee is a municipality in the Sursee constituency in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland .

geography

The community is located north of Sursee on the eastern edge of the Surental valley. Krumbach ( 690  m above sea level ) 1.8 km northeast and Hunzikon ( 729  m above sea level ) 1.5 km east of Dorfs are hamlets that lie within the boundaries of the municipality of Geuensee. The Dorfbach rises near Krumbach and flows through the Krumbachertobel and the village and joins the Suhre at Moos to the west. Almost three quarters (74.5%) of the 643 ha municipal area are used for agriculture. The settlement area comprises 10.3% and forest and wood 15.1% of the municipal area.

The population fell significantly from 1850 to 1900 by 32.8%. Between 1920 and 1960 it gradually grew back to its original size. Since then there has been constant strong growth.

The population speaks a highly Alemannic dialect. At the last census in 2000, 85.87% of the population stated German, 5.70% Albanian and 2.72% Serbo-Croatian as their main / everyday language.

The population was originally purely Roman Catholic. Today (as of 2000) 68.86% are Roman Catholic, 10.43% Evangelical Reformed and 4.62% Orthodox Christians. There are also 7.81% Muslims, 3.70% non-denominational and 0.62% Hindus. The Muslims are almost exclusively Albanians from Kosovo and Macedonia as well as Turks and Kurds. The majority of the Orthodox are Serbs and Montenegrins. The Hindus are Tamils ​​from Sri Lanka.

Origin - nationality

At the end of 2014, of the 2,750 inhabitants, 2,171 were Swiss and 579 (= 21.0%) were foreigners. The population consisted of 79.0% Swiss citizens. The community is under the name Geinwison in Urbar listed the Einsiedeln monastery in the years 1217/1222. It later belonged to the office of Sempach of the Habsburgs and was administered by the Lords of Aarburg. In 1424 Thuringia of Aarburg pledged Geuensee to the city of Lucerne , in 1429 he sold the place to it. As early as 1386, after the Battle of Sempach , Lucerne had gained more and more influence at the expense of the Habsburgs. The community was now administered as an exclave of the Landvogtei Rothenburg until 1798, then came to the Helvetic district of Sursee and in 1803 to the then newly created Office Sursee .

On May 16, 1914, Anselm Wütschert murdered 20-year-old Emilie Furrer in the Hölzliwald near the hamlet of Krumbach and sexually assaulted her body. As a result, he was the last person in the canton of Lucerne to be sentenced to death in a civil criminal process and executed .

On the occasion of the community assembly on May 15, 2015, a vote was taken on the initiative launched by the SVP local party, which the community assembly attempted to abolish. With 136 voters, the SVP failed to achieve a majority with 22 votes in favor. The motion for a ballot box on this business also received only 22 votes out of 55 required votes (2/5 of those present according to the regulations). The community meeting will therefore continue to exist.

Geuensee is connected to the public transport network by the two post bus lines Sursee-Schöftland and Sursee-Etzelwil. Sursee is an important train station with express train stops on the Lucerne-Olten and (since 2004) Lucerne-Bern (via the Aarburger Loop).

The place is on the main road from Sursee to Schöftland (and on to Aarau). The closest motorway connection Sursee to the A2 motorway is 3 km away.

Hochweidwald transmission tower

Transmitter Geuensee Höchweidwald

76 meter high transmission tower in steel framework construction in the high pasture forest at 47 ° 12 '13 "north latitude and 8 ° 08' 31" east longitude.
