history

Aerial photo (1954)

The area was populated early on. This is attested by a burial mound in the gable forest from the Hallstatt period. The remains of a Celtic settlement have also been found. In 1942, in the Muracher area west of the village, the remains of a Roman villa and plow components from this time were excavated.

In a deed of foundation to Einsiedeln Monastery from 1130, a Kuno von Büron ( Chono von Burron ) is listed as a witness. This is the first historical mention. The castle was built in the 12th century. This was the ancestral home of the Barons von Büron , whose main line was later called Barons von Aarburg . In 1260 Ulrich von Aarburg donated his entire property in Büron to the Canons of Beromünster - and received them back as an inheritance. In 1455, Hemmann von Rüssegg , the husband of the last wife of the Aarburg house, sold the community to the city of Lucerne . Until 1798 Büron belonged to the Landvogtei Büron-Triengen, then until 1803 to the district of Sursee. Since then, it has been part of the then newly created Sursee Office .
