Adolf Reinle

Adolf Reinle (born July 9, 1920 in Stein AG ; † June 17, 2006 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss art historian , conservator and university professor.

Life

Adolf Reinle, son of a small farmer and postman from Stein im Fricktal, attended the Realgymnasium Basel and the college in Schwyz , where he graduated from high school in 1940. He then studied general history, Swiss history and art history at the University of Basel and received his doctorate in 1945 with the thesis The Saint Verena von Zurzach. Legend, cult, monuments . After working as an inventor of art monuments in the canton of Lucerne , curator of the art museum in Lucerne and monument conservationist in the canton of Lucerne, he completed his habilitation in 1963 at the University of Basel, where he initially taught as a private lecturer.

In 1965 he became an associate professor , and in 1966 a full professor of art history of the Middle Ages at the University of Zurich . 1985 Reinle retired.

He died in 2006 and was buried in the cloister of the Canons' Monastery of St. Michael in Beromünster .

His life's work of writings and publications is extensive. His research and work on the history of architecture are particularly important . In 1960 Reinle was awarded the Lucerne City Literature Prize.
