Parish before the merger on January 1st, 2009

Until December 31, 2008, Winikon was a political municipality in what was then the Sursee office in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland .

On January 1st, 2009 Winikon merged with Triengen to form the municipality of Triengen.

geography

Winikon is located in the Suhrental on the border with the canton of Aargau . The place consists of the village through which the Dorfbach flows and numerous groups of houses and individual farmsteads.

The northern border of the former municipality ran in a slightly south- west direction from the Suhre over to the Uerke . The municipal boundary followed the course of the brook upstream and then turned to the southeast to the Uffikon-Winikon road. It ran along this road to the west of the Widenhubel (702 m above sea level). Then she went south-east to turn south-west of Dieboldswil to the north. Always running in a northerly direction, the municipality border went back to the Suhre, which it met slightly northeast of the village.

The entire west of the former municipality is covered by forest. In the forest near Lunggenrain was at 754 m. ü. M. also the highest point in the community. The largest of these forests in the west is the Buchwald east of the Ürke. The rest of the former municipality is almost forestless. On the northern border there are some ponds, which were created after the entire moor area on the Suhre was drained.

Of the old community area of 760 hectares, 63.8% is used for agriculture. Almost 30% - more precisely 29.3% - is covered by forest and wood and 6.8% is settlement area.

Neighboring communities

Winikon bordered Dagmersellen , Knutwil , Reiden and Triengen in the canton of Lucerne, as well as Reitnau in the canton of Aargau.

Then the community was sucked into rural exodus from the rural communities to the industrial areas and the population sank again by 1900 to the level of 1798 (1850-1900: -36.3%). This was followed by up and downs until 1960. The population in 1960 was the same as in 1910 (1910–1960: +0.5%) and only slightly higher than in 1900 (1900–1960: +2.3%). The year 1970 brought the absolute low of the population with 525 inhabitants. Compared to the high in 1850, this is a decrease of 40.3%. The population stagnated for a decade. Then it rose considerably - by half - up to the year 2000 (1980–2000: +49.8%). Since then it has been falling again (2000–2004: −6.1%).

history

The Winikon area has a long history of settlement. A stone ax from the Stone Age, a grave from the Hallstatt period and remains from the Roman era (a villa and lime kilns were excavated) bear witness to this. Wininchon is mentioned for the first time in the first land register of Engelberg Monastery from the years 1178/1197. The community was under the rule of the Habsburgs until 1407 , for whom the Lords of Büron (later also called Barons of Aarburg ) administered the area. Winikon came as part of the county of Willisau by purchase to the city of Lucerne , which also acquired the lower jurisdiction in 1455 and subordinated the municipality to the bailiff Büron-Triengen until 1798. Then Winikon belonged to the Sursee district until 1803 and since then to the then newly created Sursee Office .

Attractions

  • The late baroque parish church of St. Maria Himmelfahrt, which is visible over a large part of the Suhrental, is remarkable.
