Until December 31, 2012, Neudorf (dialect Nüderef ) was a municipality in the Sursee district of the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland . On January 1, 2013, Neudorf merged with Beromünster .

geography

The village is south of Beromünster in the Wynental. The hamlet of Gormund (740 m above sea level) to the south , the Beromünster airfield to the north and numerous hamlets and groups of houses belong to the former community .

Neudorf bordered (clockwise from the north) on Beromünster , Römerswil , Hildisrieden , Sempach and Eich .

population

The population increased slightly from 1798 to 1860 (1798-1860: +6.1%). Then began a phase of mass migration towards industrial centers, which lasted until 1900 (1860-1900: -26.6%). This was the lowest population level. Apart from two slumps between 1920 and 1930 and 1950 and 1960, the population grew steadily in the 20th century (1900-1950: +21.3%; 1950-2000: +33.8%). It has stagnated at this level since the population peak in 2000 with 1,058 inhabitants.

Between the Sempacher and Baldeggersee lakes, closer to Neudorf than to Beromünster, there is the small Lucerne-Beromünster airfield ( ICAO code : LSZO) with a grass runway that is used by motorized and glider pilots as well as parachutists and helicopter pilots. history

Parish before the merger on January 1, 2013

The community originally split off from Gunzwil . The place is mentioned for the first time in 893 as Niwidorf in a list of places subject to interest in the Fraumünster Abbey of Zurich. The Counts of Lenzburg acquired the place in the second half of the 10th century. They left the rule to the Beromünster Abbey . This was also done by their successors, the Counts of Kyburg (from 1172) and the Habsburgs (from 1263). The municipality thus became part of the Michelsamt , which fell under the rule of the city of Lucerne in 1420 . It was administered as part of the Landvogtei Michelsamt until 1798. In 1440 the place fell under the imperial ban . In 1653 it was one of those communities that opposed the city of Lucerne in the Peasants' War . From 1798 to 1803 it belonged to the Münster district; from then until 1814 to the Hochdorf office and then to the Sursee office .
