Valentin Oehen (born June 26, 1931 in Neudorf ) is a former Swiss politician of the National Action .

Origin, education and professional activities

Oehen is the son of a master cheese maker. He attended the canton school in Lucerne and studied dairy farming at the ETH . From 1957–65 he worked at the Federal Research Institute in Bern-Liebefeld , from 1965–67 he ran an industrial company in Zollikofen , and from 1967–71 he was an adjunct in the Federal Central Office for the Dairy Control and Advisory Service. From 1971 a retraining in soil biological advice followed. After 1979 Oehen ran a farm in Sessa .

politics

Oehen was a member of the Conservative Christian Social People's Party (KCVP) (1957–1965), later with Junge Bern (1967–1970), which he left because of his support for the Schwarzenbach foreign infiltration initiative and finally with the National Action (NA) from the end of 1970 , today's Swiss Democrats. At the National Action he was central president from 1972 to 1980, then honorary president. Central political positions were the demand for an end to the pressure to grow , on the one hand the expansion of public transport with a simultaneous changeover to a free, 100% pay-as-you-go tariff system, and on the other hand the restriction of private traffic in the cities and a ban on leaded petrol . In particular, landscape protection , where he campaigned for the Weber Initiative , was always associated with the so-called “ fight against foreign infiltration ” for Oehen . In 1986 he left NA.

From 1971 to 1987 Oehen was a member of the National Council, from 1973 to 1977 a member of the City Council of Köniz , and from 1977 to 1980 of the Köniz Municipal Council (executive). In 1986 he founded his own formation, the Ecological Freedom Party (ÖFP), which was to disband in 1988. Between 1987 and 1991 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino . In 1991 Oehen retired from politics.

From 1972 to 1980 Oehen was founder, board member and vice-president of the working group for population issues (from 1987 under the current name Ecopop ). The association rejected the “foreign infiltration initiatives” of Oehens NA.

In 2006 he rejoined the Swiss Democrats, as the National Action is now called. Apart from a commitment to Lex Koller , Oehen was no longer actively involved in politics. He described his time in day-to-day politics as “definitely over”. In the meantime, however, he is regularly writing articles in the SD member newspaper. In December 2018, Oehen appeared at a party conference of the right-wing extremist party, National Orientierter Schweizer .

Next life

Oehen trained as a management trainer, life coach and parapsychologist . From 2000 to 2006 he was President of the Swiss Association for Parapsychology (SVPP).
