- 1513 : In the Battle of Novara , the Confederates defeat a French force under the general Louis II. De La Trémoille . The Duke Massimiliano Sforza , who fled from Milan, can return, the French lose the Duchy of Milan and all other possessions in Italy.
- 1523 : Gustav Wasa is elected King of Sweden . The Kalmar Union is now finally dissolved.
- 1617 : The Habsburg Archduke Ferdinand is elected King of Bohemia . His measures to re-Catholicize Bohemia and the restriction of the rights of the estates , which he initiated soon after, caused displeasure and a revolt of the estates was on the way.
