Johann Andreas Christian Michelsen

Johann Andreas Christian Michelsen (born June 6, 1749 in Quedlinburg , † August 8, 1797 in Berlin ) was a German mathematician and educator .

Life

Michelsen was already teaching during his high school days . In 1769 he went to study theology at the University of Halle . At the same time he gave mathematics lessons for the lower grades at the Halle orphanage , with Ernst Gottfried Fischer among his students. In 1772 he took over the position of court master . In this position he drew the attention of Anton Friedrich Büsching , Rector of the Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster . He tried to accommodate Michelsen at his school. In 1778 he received his master's degree in philosophy in Halle .

In 1778 Michelsen received a call to the newly created fourth professorship in mathematics at the Berlin grammar school. He slowly rose to higher professorships and finally became prorector of the institute, where he was responsible for financial management. In 1796 he was finally appointed one of the directors of the Allgemeine Wittwenkasse. He died in office.
