Burhan Atak (born January 27, 1905 in Istanbul , † June 6, 1987 ibid) was a Turkish football player and referee . Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul and as his own generation, he is very strongly associated with this club and viewed by club and fan sites as one of the most important personalities in the club's history. He belonged to the Galatasaray team that dominated Turkish football in the 1920s and won five of eight possible Istanbul championships . Due to his physical sturdiness, he was called aAyı Burhan (Eng. Burhan, the bear ). Following his football career, he worked as a football referee.
Player career
society
Atak played in the youth department of Galatasaray Istanbul and was included in the professional squad here during the 1925/26 season. He came in this season in the game of March 26, 1926 of the İstanbul Ligi (German Istanbul League ) against Beykozspor to use and made his professional debut. Since there was no national professional league in Turkey at that time, regional leagues existed instead in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which İstanbul Ligi (also called İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most renowned. In the further course of the season Atak completed all remaining games of his team with three league appearances and was with this with a clear point gap to arch-rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul Istanbul champions. In the next season, Atak completed six of the possible seven league games for his team and was able to defend the title in the Istanbul championship with this. Since the Istanbul League was not played to the end in the 1927/28 season because of the Summer Olympics and therefore no champions could be determined, the league was continued regularly with the 1928/29 season . Also this season, Atak and his team won the Istanbul championship.
After the championship of the 1929/30 season was awarded to arch rivals Fenerbahçe, Atak and his team were able to win the championship in 1930/31. Atak played three more years for Galatasaray after this championship, but could not win a title with his club during this time.
National team
Atak began his national team career in 1926 with a commitment for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Polish national team . By April 1932, he completed nine more games, scoring a goal.
Atak took part in the 1928 Summer Olympics with the Turkish selection .
death
Atak died on June 6, 1987 in his native city of Istanbul and was on the Marmara Adasi Cemetery of the province of Balıkesir buried.
