society

Adolescent years

Leblebi was born in the small town of Pınarhisar in Eastern Thrace in 1908 and moved with his family to the Ottoman capital Istanbul as a child . Here Leblebi attended the renowned Galatasaray High School and came into contact with football during this time. At the age of twelve he started in the youth department of the traditional club Galatasaray Istanbul - the club that was founded by students of the Galatasaray high school, with club football. During this time Leblebi attended a game played by his club Galatasaray in the Kadıköy Union Club Stadium against Altınordu İdman Yurdu . Before the game of the first men's team, the reserve teams of both clubs competed against each other. Since not all of the players in the second team had come to the game, the club's officials had a hard time setting up a team of eleven players. The then club president Yusuf Ziya Öniş used the 14-year-old Leblebi, who was just present, as the missing player. Leblebi convinced right away and became the match winner with three goals. To show the underage Leblebi to the other players of the second guard as an example, Öniş said to the other players on the team after the game that even the lively boy ( Leblebi are roasted chickpeas) could score three goals, while the other players scored one who could improve Showed commitment. After this statement, Mehmet Leblebi received his nickname Leblebi , which he also adopted as his surname in 1934 after the family name law passed .

Admission to the 1st men's team

After Leblebi had made a lasting impression in the game against Altınordu İY, he was accepted into the squad of the first men's team in the spring of 1923 at the age of 15. His first game for this team was when the İstanbul Cuma Ligi (German: Istanbul Friday League), the most prestigious league in the country at the time, played against arch-rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul .

With the end of the occupation of Istanbul and the establishment of modern Turkey, football was also reformed in Istanbul. After several Istanbul leagues such as the Friday League and Sunday League existed in parallel in some seasons and competed with one another, the Istanbul Futbol Ligi (German Istanbul Football League ) was introduced in the summer . This league replaced or united all previous leagues and ensured that all known Istanbul clubs played in the same league. Leblebi took part in this league with his team and was runner-up behind arch-rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul in the first season of this newly founded league . Leblebi fought for a regular place during this season and kept it for almost his entire playing career. In the second season of this league Leblebi was sovereign champions with his team and won his first title at club level. In the following two seasons, the team managed to win this title two more times. The team was the first to win the league championship three times in a row. Leblebi was one of the most important players on his team during this time. In a game in the Istanbul Football League against Vefa Istanbul in 1925 , Leblebi achieved a goal record in Turkish football that is still unbroken today. In his team's 20-0 victory, he scored 16 goals. Leblibi played for Galatasaray until 1935, during which time he and his team won the Istanbul Football League two more times. He then ended his active playing career at the age of 26.

National team

In the summer of the 1924 Olympic Summer Games , Leblebi was nominated for the first time in the Turkish national team and made his international debut in this tournament in the game against the Czechoslovak national team , the Turkish national team's second game ever.

After this encounter Leblebi was one of the regularly nominated national players until 1928 and was the last to take part in the 1928 Summer Olympics.

His last international match was against the Bulgarian national team four years later . In total, he played 16 times for Turkey and scored three goals.
