Pınarhisar ( Bulgarian Бунархисар / Bunarhisar ) is a district town and a district in the Turkish province of Kırklareli in Eastern Thrace . Pınarhisar is centrally located in the province, about 28 km southeast of the provincial capital . The city has a small airport and is on the D020 and D565 highways. According to the city seal, Pınarhisar received the status of a community ( Belediye ) in 1909 .

The district was spun off on March 1, 1953 from the south-eastern part of the central district ( Merkez ) Kırklareli and borders on this in the west, on the Demirköy district in the north, on the Vize district in the east and on the Lüleburgaz district in the south . The population density (35.5) is below the provincial average of 55.9 inhabitants per km². In addition to the district town (the fifth largest city in the province) there is another Belediye (municipality): Kaynarca with 2,214 inhabitants. There are also 14 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 389 inhabitants. The population ranges from 773 ( Cevizköy ) to 69 ( Akören ), five villages have more than 389 inhabitants.

history

Pinarhisar was a small town with a Bulgarian character until the Second Balkan War in 1913, when the Bulgarian population was expelled from the Turks in the course of the reconquest of Eastern Thrace (→ Thracian Bulgarians ). 150 displaced families settled in present-day Ahtopol , 100 in Aytos , 57 in Banewo , 23 in Wesselie and other places in Bulgaria.
