Kofçaz ( Bulgarian Кофчаз ) is a town and capital of the district of the same name in the province of Kırklareli in Eastern Thrace . The place is about 24 km north of the provincial capital Kırklareli on the Fındıklı stream.
Kofçaz was a Bulgarian village until the Second Balkan War in 1913, when the Bulgarian population was expelled from the Turks in the course of the reconquest of Eastern Thrace (→ Thracian Bulgarians ).
Located in the north of the province district is bordered to the south by the central district ( Merkez ) Kırklareli, on the west by the province of Edirne and to the north by Bulgaria . It is the least populous county and also has the lowest population density in the province. In addition to the district town, it consists of 16 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 108 residents. The population ranges from 245 ( Elmacık ) to 32 ( Aşağıkanara , which is also the poorest village in the province).
The Yıldız Dağları occupy part of the district.
