societies

Baydar started club football in the Fenerbahçe Istanbul youth team . After the entry of the Ottoman Empire into the First World War on August 2, 1914, all football players from Fenerbahçe's first team and also from the other teams from Istanbul were drafted into military service. Little by little, younger and younger players moved up into the first men's team. Among those players was the young Baydar. With Fenerbahçe he played in the İstanbul Cuma Ligi (German: Istanbul Friday League), the most prestigious league in the country at the time. It was the only league to continue playing between 1915 and 1918. With his team Baydar was in the Cuma League season 1916/17 behind the clubs Altınordu İdman Yurdu and Anadolu SK third in the league. In the season 1917/18 Paydar was with his team behind Altınordu İY runner-up in the league. This association was founded in 1909 in the Istanbul district of Kadıköy , the home district of Fenerbahçes, by former members of Galatasaray Istanbul . This club established itself in a very short time as a great rival of Fenerbahçes.

Since the Ottoman Empire was one of the losing powers, its capital Istanbul was occupied by military troops of the British , French and Italians at the end of the First World War . As a result of the war situation and the subsequent occupation of Istanbul , the Cuma Ligi was no longer continued after the summer of 1918. The English groups organized their own clubs and a league. Due to this occupation, almost all local clubs, including Fenerbahçe, restricted their activities for about two years. Baydar only played in a few friendly matches for Fenerbahçe and once for Altınordu İY. In 1920 Baydar took part in the Makriköy-Gençlerbirliğ tournament with Fenerbahçe .

During the occupation, the English and French occupation forces founded their own clubs and also organized several league systems. Except for Fenerbahçe, all other Turkish clubs refused to play in a league with the occupying teams. Fenerbahçe participated very successfully in these leagues and tournaments and won 60 of the 68 games against the occupying teams, drew four times and lost only four games. As a result, the popularity of Fenerbahçes among the local population increased significantly and the games served as a reflection of the tense situation within the city. In this environment, Baydar returned to his old club Fenerbahçe in the summer of 1920 and took part with him in the re-introduced Friday League. In his first season after his return, the season 1920/21, he won the championship of the Friday League with Fenerbahçe. After the championship was awarded to arch-rivals Galatasaray in the next season, the championship of the Friday league could be won again in the 1922/23 season. This won championship, in which Fenerbahçe played 12 games, reached the team unbeaten and without a single goal.

Before the end of the occupation of Istanbul, the commander of all occupying forces of Istanbul, General Charles Harington Harington , organized a cup game named after him, General Harington Kupası . For this game, which Harington attached great importance to winning, he personally organized a selection tournament within the occupying teams, in which the Irish Guards, Grenadiers Guards and Coldstream Guards participated. After the tournament games, he selected the players he considered suitable from these three teams. In addition, he had four professional football players from the British troops stationed in Egypt and Gibraltar brought to Istanbul especially for this game . From all these football players he had a team set up, which he named Coldstream Guards . He then had an advertisement printed in a daily newspaper that the Coldstream Guards were challenging the Turkish teams and that they could compete against them in General Harington Kupası in any combination. Fenerbahçe responded to this newspaper ad by saying that they would only accept the challenge with their own squad. Both teams competed against each other on June 29, 1923 in the Taksim Stadium . Baydar was one of his team's starting XI in this historic game. Fenerbahçe won the prestigious game 2-1 and caused great joy among the local population.

With the end of the occupation of Istanbul and the founding of modern Turkey, football was also reformed in Istanbul. After several Istanbul leagues such as the Friday League and Sunday League existed in parallel in some seasons and competed with one another, the Istanbul Futbol Ligi (German Istanbul Football League ) was introduced in the summer . This league replaced or united all previous leagues and ensured that all known Istanbul clubs played in the same league. Baydar took part with his team in this league and played for Fenerbahçe in this league until the summer of 1931 and reached the championship of this league in the 1929/30 season. Baydar was the second most successful goalscorer of his team in this championship season after Zeki Rıza Sporel with twelve goals. Only in the season 1924/25 he did not take part with his club in the competition of this league. In the summer of 1931 he ended his playing career.

National team

Baydar made his first international appearance in the first game of the Turkish national team . In the game against the national team of Romania , he was in the starting line-up and played for the full season.

With the Turkish national team, Baydar took part in the Summer Olympics in 1924 and 1928 . Baydar completed a total of 16 international matches and scored one goal.

death

Baydar died on June 13, 1990. On June 15, after the midday prayer, he was buried in Istanbul's Galip Paşa Mosque in the famous Karacaahmet cemetery .
