The Weseler SV (officially: Weseler Spielverein 1910 eV ) is a sports club from Wesel . The first soccer team played for two years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The club was founded on October 15, 1910 and merged on March 7, 1919 with SV Borussia Wesel . In the 1920s, the Weseler mostly played in the second highest division. After the end of the Second World War , all Wesel sports clubs merged to form the Weseler sports association . In 1949 the sports association was renamed the game association again. This first entered the district class , became champion there in 1952 and rose to the state league , the highest amateur league at the time on the Lower Rhine. After two years, the Weseler went back down to the district class.

There the game club was first runner-up behind VfB Rheingold Emmerich in 1958 , before the Weseler returned as champions in the state league a year later. However, after the introduction of the Lower Rhine Association League, this was only the second highest amateur league. The game club was now able to establish itself in the regional league. In the 1960/61 season they beat SuS Kray-Leithe with 12: 1. Two years later it went back to the district class, before the Weselers were passed through to the district class in the following season 1963/64. This was followed by direct resurgence before the game club returned to the national league in 1973.

The Weselers became an elevator crew . After the direct relegation, the game club came back promptly and was fifth in the 1975/76 promotion season. Financial difficulties led in 1980 to relegation to the district league. After many years, the Weseler rose to the national league for the fifth time in 1997 and came third four years later. Again financial difficulties plagued the club, so that in January 2006 the team was withdrawn from the current national league season. In 2008 it went down to the district league B, before the club four years later with the descent to the district league C, the lowest division, reached its sporting low point. In the 2016/17 season, the team played in the district league B and had to be relegated at the end of the season as the bottom of the table.
