Uwe Scheurer (born September 19, 1933 ; † July 20, 2005 ) was a German football player who was used for various clubs in the first-class league until 1963.

Career

The striker Scheurer played in his youth at Union 02 Hamborn from Duisburg , from where he moved to Meidericher SV in the 2nd League West in 1955 at the age of 21 . The MSV had previously suffered relegation from the Oberliga West ; the league represented the top division in the then still regionally limited league system. The club relied primarily on young players for the desired promotion, from which the newcomer also benefited. Scheurer, who had previously played several leagues lower, was called up in almost half of all matches and made seven hits to qualify for the league in 1956. Meiderich was able to re-establish himself immediately in the top division and was in seventh and fourth place in the following two years. After 15 games with seven goals in the first year, Scheurer made his breakthrough as a regular player in the 1957/58 season and was also able to draw attention to himself with 13 goals. While his team played a friendly against Real Saragossa in Spain in November 1957 , he aroused the hosts' interest, but refused to move to the national Spanish league for personal reasons.

In 1958 he left Meidericher SV, for which he had come across leagues on 56 missions with 27 goals, and signed with league rivals Fortuna Düsseldorf , which meant a move from Duisburg to the neighboring city. Since he received a bonus for his signature with Fortuna, he was initially banned from the association for one year. So he could not be included in the squad until the 1959/60 season and could not prevail against the team's internal competition, which is why he did not get more than seven games with two goals. In view of this, he turned his back on the club in 1960.

He found a new employer in the Oberliga Süd , where he joined SSV Reutlingen 05 . At Reutlingen he was able to build on his successful time in Meiderich and appeared regularly as a goal scorer. In 1962 he returned, after 46 missions with 26 goals in the Oberliga Süd, with his move to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the Oberliga West. The club fought in the 1962/63 season for qualification for the newly founded Bundesliga , but was ultimately beaten in the twelve-year standings . Therefore, from 1963 Oberhausen had to compete in the Regional League West , which was created as a substructure for the Bundesliga . Scheurer did not have a permanent place at that time, but was called up regularly and was able to score six or ten times in the first two regional league years. With his team he placed himself in the upper half of the table, but a few points were missing for the promotion round to the Bundesliga. From 1965 it was no longer taken into account at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. However, he remained loyal to both football and his home region around the cities of Duisburg and Oberhausen by working as a coach for various amateur clubs after he had finished his active career. He died in 2005 at the age of 71.
