Union 02 Hamborn
The SV Union Hamborn 02 was a football club from the Duisburg district of Hamborn . The first soccer team played for three years in the then first-class Gauliga Niederrhein .
history
On April 12, 1902, the clubs Germany Bruckhausen and Edelweiß Bruckhausen merged to form the Ballspielverein Bruckhausen . Seven years later, this association merged with SV Vorwärts Marxloh, which was founded in 1907, to become Union 02 Hamborn. In 1922, the weight training club joined Hamborn in 1907 .
The most successful period in the club's history was the 1930s , when the club provided a German national player with Paul Zielinski . Zielinski was part of the German squad for the 1934 World Cup and was used in all four games. A year later, they were promoted to the first-class Gauliga Niederrhein, with the Hamborner benefiting from the better goal quotient compared to VfB Mülheim . Relegation was only missed by one point and the Union and Borussia Munich-Gladbach were relegated to the district class.
After the team managed to rise again in 1937 , the Hamborner were able to stay in the Gauliga for two years. Despite a 2-0 victory at champions Fortuna Düsseldorf , Union had to relegate for the second time in 1939. The direct resurgence was missed in the promotion games against TuS Helene Altenessen . From 1943 to 1945, the Union formed a war gaming community together with local rivals Hamborn 07 . After the Second World War , Union played in the then third-class Lower Rhine regional league until 1953 and then only played at the local level.
On July 19, 1959, Union 02 Hamborn merged with MTV 1906 Hamborn to form TuS Hamborn 02/06 , which was renamed MTV Union Hamborn 02 in February 1960 .
