Herbert Kurwan
Herbert Kurwan (born January 5, 1937 ; † January 29, 2020 ) was a German soccer player who played 92 games with 20 goals in the Oberliga West for Duisburger SpV from 1957 to 1962 .
career
Amateur, until 1957
In the Landesliga Niederrhein, at Union 02 Hamborn , the young player Herbert Kurwan played in May 1957 at the age of 20 in the German national football team of amateurs . Within four days, he played two international matches for the DFB team on May 15 and 19. Both games ended in a 1-1 draw. First in Glasgow against Scotland, then in Offenburg against England. At the side of the regular players Herbert Schäfer and Fritz Semmelmann , the Hamborner formed the runner row of the German team. The Oberliga runner-up in the 1956/57 round, the Duisburg game club, committed the talent to the 1957/58 round and Kurwan became a contract player.
Oberliga West, 1957 to 1962
The former amateur player from Union 02 Hamborn made his debut immediately on the first match day of the 1957/58 round, on August 11, 1957, in the 3-0 home win of DSV against SV Sodingen , in the Oberliga West. The newcomer playing in the role of the right connector also scored his first goal in the contract player league in the west. Kurwan completed all 30 games in this round and was also successful as a goalscorer with 11 goals. The highlights were the derbies against Hamborn 07 and Meidericher SV . After the decline of the traditional club Duisburger SV after the 1961/62 round from the Oberliga West, Kurwan had played 92 games with 20 goals for the DSV.
Finished as a contract player
After the round in 1962/63 in the 2nd League West - the DSV took 8th place and Kurwan had played under coach Hennes Hoffmann at the side of players such as Rolf Benning , Albert Eichholz and Karlheinz Poll in 13 league games - Kurwan was in the first Year of the regional football league 1963/64 again in 18 games for the DSV on the ball. At the merger club Eintracht Duisburg only two were added in 1964/65 and at STV Horst-Emscher in the 1965/66 round one game in the Regionalliga West. Herbert Kurwan recorded a total of 21 games from 1963 to 1966 in this class.
