The TuS Helene 1928 food is a sports club from the Essen district Altenessen .

history

TuS Helene was founded in 1928. The association was closely associated with the Amalie and Helene collieries in Krupp . In the 1940s, the club rose to the Gauliga Niederrhein , the top German division at the time, and promptly qualified for the final round of the German championship in 1941 .

After the Second World War, the association was dissolved and re-established in 1945 under the name VfR 1928 Essen . In 1950 it was renamed TuS Helene 1928 Essen eV With the colliery dying in the Ruhr area, the star of TuS Helene, who was at best number five in Essen (behind Rot-Weiss , Sportfreunde Katernberg , Schwarz-Weiß and TuRa 1886 Essen ), also faded .

In the 1980s , the club celebrated a brief renaissance with three consecutive promotions from the district league to the association league Niederrhein , in which they spent three seasons from 1983 to 1986. This was followed by the equally complete descent back to the district league.

At the beginning of the 2000s, the club made it back to the Lower Rhine regional league after being promoted, but after relegating to the regional league in 2010, it returned to the regional league in 2012. Five years later the TuS Helene rose in the district league B.

Stadion

TuS Helene Essen plays its home games in the Bäuminghausstrasse district sports facility . The stadium today has an official capacity of around 11,000 spectators. In earlier years it even offered space for 30,000 visitors. The old grandstand is made entirely of concrete and has no seat shells or the like. To the left and right of the grandstand there are standing spaces overgrown with greenery on the former running track.
