Antonio Maria Baptista
António Maria Baptista (born January 5, 1866 in Beja , † June 6, 1920 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese military and politician. From March 8, 1920 until his death he was Prime Minister of Portugal.
Life
António Maria Baptista joined the Democratic Party in 1910 . He fought for his country in Mozambique and in World War I. In 1919 he became Minister of War in the first cabinet of Domingos Leite Pereira . On March 8, 1920 he succeeded him as the Portuguese head of government. On June 6, 1920, he suddenly died of a stroke after a cabinet meeting after receiving an insulting letter. After his death he was promoted posthumously to general .
