Career

Barrie played during his junior years from 1985 in the Western Hockey League . Here he started with the Calgary Wranglers before moving to the Victoria Cougars after two seasons . At the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 he was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the sixth round in 124th place. In 1989 he moved to the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL and was the league's top scorer with 185 points.

After he had not received a contract with the Oilers, the Philadelphia Flyers hired him as a free agent in late February 1990 . Shortly afterwards, he also made his NHL debut with his only game for the Flyers in the 1989/90 season . For two years he only played on the farm team with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League . In the 1992/93 season he came to another eight missions in the NHL and was able to achieve his first NHL goals.

This was followed by a move to the Florida Panthers, but here he was only used twice and mostly played with the Cincinnati Cyclones in the International Hockey League . He played the playoffs for the Rochester Americans in the AHL. The next stop was the Pittsburgh Penguins. Due to a strike , the season started late and he was playing for the Cleveland Lumberjacks in the IHL. With the pens he played all 48 games as one of only three players and then came to his first playoff appearances in the NHL. The following year, however, there were only five missions, and he mostly played in Cleveland.

After a year and a half with the San Antonio Dragons in the IHL, he moved to Germany. Before the 1997/98 season he joined the Frankfurt Lions. After his second season in Frankfurt, in which he was the team's best scorer, he moved back to North America for the 1999/2000 season . His new team were the Los Angeles Kings. Here he also played predominantly and was only occasionally used in the IHL with the Long Beach Ice Dogs . Shortly before the end of the season he returned to the Florida Panthers, where he ended his career after the 2000/01 season.

Since then he has run a hotel (Bear Mountain) with a golf course in British Columbia. In the summer of 2008, he and Oren Koules bought the rights to the Tampa Bay Lightning franchise .
