The Long Beach Ice Dogs were an American ice hockey franchise based in Long Beach , California . The Ice Dogs' venue was the Long Beach Sports Arena .

history

The Los Angeles Ice Dogs were relocated to Long Beach , California , following the 1995/96 season and took their place in the International Hockey League , in which they played under the name Long Beach Ice Dogs until 2000. In their first season, the team reached the final of the Turner Cup in the 1996/97 season , but lost to the Detroit Vipers in the best-of-seven series with 2: 4 wins. In the following three years the team reached at least the second play-off round, but despite the successes in the IHL, the team, which was always coached by former Canadian NHL professional John Van Boxmeer for the first four years , switched to West Coast Hockey in 2000 League . When this was dissolved three years later, Long Beach joined with some other teams in the league of the now nationwide operating ECHL . After the 2006/07 season, the owners of the Ice Dogs announced that they could not maintain the franchise due to ongoing losses, whereupon they were suspended from the ECHL's gaming operations.
