Patrik Augusta (born November 13, 1969 in Jihlava , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach, who has been working as an assistant coach at Bílí Tygři Liberec since 2018 and was appointed head coach in May 2019. He is the son of former ice hockey player and coach Josef Augusta .
Career
As a promising young player, Patrik Augusta was drawn in the seventh round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft in 149th place by the Toronto Maple Leafs . After four years at ASD Dukla Jihlava , he moved immediately to North America after the draft and played for Toronto's farm team, the St. John's Maple Leafs , in the American Hockey League . He convinced there and got a chance, but failed to attract attention in his first two games in the NHL. Toronto gave it to the Washington Capitals , but they only used it in their farm team in the IHL for the first few years . Here he was always among the top scorers and had more than 80 points for three years in a row. But even with the Capitals he was only allowed on the ice twice in the NHL and remained without a scorer point.
Patrik buried his NHL plans and moved to the SERC Wild Wings . After two years in Schwenningen, he signed on with the Krefeld penguins . Together with Christoph Brandner and Brad Purdie, he was part of the first row of the Krefeld Penguins, which became German champions in 2003 . The series was also called the “magic triangle” . He also played in Krefeld for two years and then moved to the Hanover Scorpions for the 2003/04 season . However, a variety of different injuries forced him to end his active career after the 2005/06 season .
He then worked as a scout for the Phoenix Coyotes for two years. From 2008 he was under contract with HC Dukla Jihlava as a sports manager and looked after the professional team of the club from 2009 to 2013 as an assistant coach. He then worked as a junior coach at Dukla. Between 2012 and 2017 he was also part of the coaching staff of the Czech national junior teams and initially looked after the U16 and later the U17 and U18 national teams.
In 2017 he was head coach at BK Mladá Boleslav for about four months . For the 2018/19 season he switched to the Bílí Tygři Liberec as assistant coach .
